For the month of April, I am participating in 30 days of #verselove poetry writing with Dr. Sarah J. Donovan's Ethical ELA.
Today's poetry inspiration was by three pre-service teachers at Oklahoma State University (Abigail Hambrick, Betsy Matlock, and Soshi Xiong Soshi) who encouraged us to write a summertime poem. I immediately thought of one of my favorite summertime experiences, searching for sea glass in Saco Beach, Maine - though I realize, one can probably hunt for sea glass at other times of year! Here's my poem:
Saco Beach
walking the beach ever slow
searching for sea glass
on the edge of the ocean
just graced by waves
hidden amid shells so tiny
soft bits of seaweed
minute pebbles
I pause
walking the beach ever slow
searching for sea glass
glisten
twinkle
glitter
sparkle
gleam
blue clear amber white green
walking the beach ever slow
searching for sea glass
to unearth is to hold
old and new
tiny and vast
simple and magical
present and past
now and forever

no, no, please don’t give me any
oh my, no, no, I won’t purchase
the beauty is in the find
the treasure
the moment
I love
